For the first time ever, the 2009 Arizona Boys & Girls State Junior Championships, a prestigious event conducted at Superstition Mountain Golf & Country Club on July 7 and 8, will be organized and run by three state golf associations.
The Arizona Boys & Girls State Junior Championship Qualifying also has a new look this summer. Because of the partnership between the JGAA, SWSPGA and the AGA, open qualification will take place at three locations; June 26 at Randolph Golf Complex in Tucson; June 29 at Oakcreek Country Club in Sedona; and June 29 at Kierland Golf Club in Scottsdale. According to Sean Ferris, assistant executive director of the JGAA, the field is limited to 60 boys and 30 girls, and final pre-qualifying will be finalized by June 19. The balance of the field available for open qualifying and the minimum scoring requirement will be set by June 25. Each open qualifying location will be allocated a number of qualifying spots determined by the size of the field. To successfully qualify for the State Junior Championships at the open qualifying locations, players must compete from the same distance as the players in the oldest age group and meet the minimum scoring requirement. The number of qualifying spots and minimum scoring requirement will be made available before play begins. Official Entry into the State Junior Championship Once players have qualified to participate in the State Junior Championship, they must register online at www.jgaa.org. If they do not already have a JGAA login and password, they’ll need to register with the JGAA to complete online registration. The 2009 entry fee is $65 and the deadline is June 30 at 12 PM. Caddies Players are not allowed to have caddies at qualifying or at the State Junior Championship.
