Super Bowl XLII isn’t laying claim to having the FBR Open as a “lead-in”
event, that’s just tradition and good planning. But the unlimited possibilities
of Arizona’s breathtaking landscape, storied history and diverse culture, not to
mention 325 sunny days a year have been on display to over a billion people
worldwide during the week leading up to Super Bowl XLII, February 3 at
University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale.

Arizona’s Only Quarry Golf Course
With stunning landscapes and
spectacular visuals, Arizona golf courses are, by nature, different from courses
built anywhere else in the world. But The
Pines Golf Club at Marana takes unique to a
whole new level- down actually, deep into an old abandoned sand and gravel
quarry with its back nine, providing a golf experience you’re not likely to
forget anytime soon.

Since the computer and Internet boom boomed, how many things have actually
become easier? Come on, has your life gotten any simpler thanks to the Internet?
Of course it has. Sort of. You could probably make a lot longer list of ways
computers have made your life more difficult, but on that short list of
advantages, you can now put, “booking golf.”
Opengolfteetimes.com has
grown every year for the past six years, and is getting easier to use all the
time, not because of its computers but because of the knowledge of its people.

Fountain Hill’s Fun Favorite!
We all remember so fondly and so
vividly our first car. It might not have been brand new, might not have had all
the fancy options of the newest models we’d later aspire to, but it was also
more fun and was host to more good times than any car we ever owned. You
remember it, don’t you? Like it was yesterday. Desert Canyon Golf Club, the
first golf course built in Fountain Hills back in 1971, has tha same feel.
Friendly, very functional, a whole lot of fun, and just 25 minutes from downtown
Scottsdale.

Beat the Heat, Better your Game
Eagle
Mountain Golf Academy (formerly Platinum Golf Academy) Director of
Instruction Derek Nannen feels your golfer’s pain. He also feels the heat of the
Arizona summer, and is smart enough to realize that what you don’t need is to
spend too much time under the broiling sun, even though it is the Valley of the
Sun. That sensibility is behind Derek and his team of five instructors at the
Eagle Mountain Golf Academy offering up tailored instruction to specifically
what ails your game, “super-clinics” if you will, at their state-of-the-art (and
shaded) Fountain Hills teaching facility.

Arizona
National Golf Club is desert golf at its finest. Designed by Robert
Trent Jones Jr. and managed by the renown I.R.I. Golf Group, the golf course
meanders among the foothills of Tucson, Arizona’s beautiful Santa Catalina
Mountains as it follows the rugged natural flow of the land across shady
mesquite-lined arroyos and skirts craggy rock outcroppings.

It’s that time of year again, time for desert-dwelling golfers to head to the cool mountain golf retreats to tee it up. Prescott, Sedona and Flagstaff all see their fare share of Phoenicians making the trek up I-17 looking to escape the Phoenix inferno. Two of the “coolest” mountain golf retreats are SunCor Golf’s StoneRidge Golf Course in Prescott Valley and Sedona Golf Resort in Sedona.

Surrounded by breathtaking landscape and one of the nation’s largest ponderosa pine forests, Prescott is a must-see for the outdoors person. Five area lakes and more than 450 miles of recreational trails offer a wealth activities and adventures. Prescott’s history and cultural heritage are readily apparent: over 600 buildings on the National Register of Historic Buildings, four museums, the historic Courthouse Plaza and famous (and once infamous) Whiskey Row are hallmarks of this charming, mile-high community.

Los Abrigados is a Portuguese term for the “the shelters”, and in Spanish it means a place to “keep warm”, but in the Arizona summer months, this ILX signature resort nestled against the banks of the famous Oak Creek in Sedona, the warmth translates into the hospitality you can take advantage of while you cool off. The resort is a world away from the desert heat, though only a 2-hour drive from the Valley of the Sun.

You can almost hear the hoofbeats when you drive up to the clubhouse at Oakcreek Country Club. You look around, half-expecting to see John Wayne and Kirk Douglas riding over the incredible red-rock formations that surround this 6,824-yard par-72 layout. Instead of “the Duke” and Douglas, what you’ll meet are the Jones’, as you play a rare Arizona collaboration of Robert Trent Jones Senior and Junior.
Besides what you hear, and see, you’ll be amazed by what you feel. Sedona’s far more temperate climate (compared to Phoenix, 90-minutes south) and the comfortable pace of a golf facility that’s a true “country club”. Oakcreek Country Club is not your typical desert-style resort course where the accent’s on the “resort”. Oakcreek is country club golf, and more accurately, Midwestern-style country club golf.
